DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 991 with rare damascene, 21J, 16S, gold-filled HC recase with very attractive engine turning and engraving detail, refinished fancy white enamel SS dial with gold foil decorations, light blue color behind hour numerals and at center, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, fishscale pattern nickel damascene, s#395888. This fishscale pattern damascene is extremely rare among Grade 991 production. This example is listed in the Hamilton factory ledger as having been sold to Burr W. Freer of San Francisco on October 21st, 1909, and this watch is one of four from its production run that are listed as having special finish and being sold to Freer in October/November of 1909. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, few scattered mild fine to micro-fine scratches; dial has been refinished with a softer material surface glaze over its main portion, seconds-register is not refinished, refinish is nicely executed overall but has some areas of gold foil restoration that are not as finely finished as the original, excellent cosmetic condition otherwise with some areas of perimeter rub under bezel; excellent hands; case shows hardly any wear, a patch of small sharp dings to band at 1, superb engine turning and engraving detail, front closes with some gap to band around the sides, band (but not bezel) is slotted for an additional lever-set position; tight bow, crown shows little wear; clean plastic crystal.
